So, I was told to go to a touchless car wash to clean that ash (?) off of my car, since it could be abrasive and would ruin the clear coat. So I did. I had to wait 10 minutes, and then I found out it only took tokens... so I went to buy the four I needed, but the smallest bill I had was a ten. So I got ten tokens. Anyway, I finally got my car rinsed off with high pressure soapy water, and....
No, that’s not the same picture as before. It really did nothing. I’m going to a regular car wash this morning. Hopefully my clear coat survives.
And yes, I know I should have washed the car immediately. I don’t know why I didn't.

Sorry it didn’t work out for you.
Dark blues and black coloured cars are more difficult as the panel temperatures are much hotter than say white, silver, etc... coloured cars so dirt gets baked into them.
Fingers crossed the worst you get is only light swirling.
A colleague has a black Eigh th Gen Honda Civic and I’m convinced she’s trying to kill me.
She went from metallic blue,
to silver,
to white
then black.
Black cars can end up like this over time.

Who knows. It rained down on the parking lot at work the other day, immediately after a rainstorm, so it stuck to all the cars.

Luckily, I can’t see any damage. Unluckily, this is my hood after drying:
I’m going to try to scrub it off by hand later.

What day was this? My Mom drove through Atlanta on Friday, while it was raining, and now the hood has weird white streaks in it.

3 things could remove this:
1. Clay (or a clay “mitt). Be sure to use some sort of lubricant when using it ; spray detailer will work. Be aware that clay can, if the paint is soft enough, put light swirls in the paint. If that happens you need to go to #3 - the dual action polisher.
- GO LIGHT with the clay and use LOTS of spray detai ler. Use the lightest pressure possible to avoid swirls in paint.

2. Water spot remover. I’ve had mixed results with these products. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. Might have to go with #3 - the polisher.

3. Dual action polisher with polishing compound. This is the last resort. It’s pretty easy to do, but not cheap. You need the polisher, a few pads, and the polishing compound. Would probably cost a few hundred bucks to buy it all for yourself, or you could pay a local detailer to do it for the same cost.
I own a Griot’s dual action and love it.

I’ve listed autogeek stuff because I’m a customer and buy from them (I’m not an affiliate or tied to them in any way).
Good luck!

Do you have a shaded area you can park the car to cool and wash it?
If you have no snow foam lance/canon, make a soapy bucket of shampoo and saturate your wash mitt and then wring it out over a panel, then getting your mitt saturated, gently wipe the mitt over, applying a little more pressure if needed (not too much) to remove the deposits.
Honestly, navy blue and black coloured cars are the bane of my life. In the most part they are like any other colour, but t hey require much more care when dealing with issues such as what you’ve got, scratches, etc...
Just take your time and be patient, good luck.

It was indeed Friday, but I haven’t noticed any other cars with marks on them. Still, that’s really strange.

Confession: I have never taken a car to be washed. The closest I've done to washing a car was spray it down with a hose. Granted, I've always driven beaters.

You should try it, even on a beater. A few years back I got bored and put a mirror shine on the crown vic, right up to the rust holes. To this day it shows, since the decade+ of oxidation and surface scratching was removed it comes pretty clean even in the rain, and I’ve not waxed it in over a year (and it lives outside).
